Danieli contracted to build Estructurales Corsa mini-mill
Danieli has contracted Core Furnace Systems to design and supply a Consteel operation for a 1 million metric tons/year mini-mill it is building in Mexico, Estructurales Corsa. The project is a joint venture between the Gerdau Group and Aceros Corsa, and will represent the first Consteel installation in Mexico.

Consteel is a steelmaking process that continuously preheats and feeds scrap (and other metallic raw materials) to an electric arc furnace. There are seven other Consteel installations in North America, and more than 30 worldwide. The process is responsible for producing over 15 million metric tons/year of steel. Core Furnace Systems is the North American licensee for the Consteel process.

In addition to the Consteel melt shop, the Estructurales Corsa project also call for a five-strand continuous beam-blank caster, and a medium-section mill to roll wide-flange beams, standard beams, channels, angles, and flat products.

The start-up schedule for early 2010.
